Sabang
Puerto Galera comes to life at night.....
is what I call a mini city. Maybe I should clarify that, it is no
way big enough to be classified a city and I probably should not even
compare it to a city, but in comparison with the rest of Puerto Galera,
it is huge.
There
is only one road into Sabang Puerto Galera and one road out, the rest
are small alleyways, which take you past hotels, hairdressers, shops,
restaurants and the ever present scuba diving shop. Scuba diving is
what put Sabang Philippines on the map.
Get
use to walking because that is your main mode of transport.
Sabang Beach
Sabang Beach Puerto Galera
I
get a lot of people asking me what Sabang Beach is like? Can I go sunbaking?
Is the water nice for swimming etc..
Well
a short answer for all that is no. If you want all that then Sabang
Beach is not for you, half the time it is covered by banca's boats moored
waiting for there next fare. The sand is not what I would call pristine
and at high tide most of the beach is gone. Development has also taken
its toll with the buildings coming right down to the waterline. So to
put it simply, you do not come to Sabang Puerto Galera because of the
beach. If beaches are what you want in Puerto Galera and you are staying
in Sabang then go for a walk to Big La Laguna Beach, it will only take
you fifteen to twenty minutes, there are some nice resorts there to.
Sabang
has other charms, it has a huge range of acommodation that would suit
any budget and traveller. You can buy anything you need from Sabang
as well, you can even get a haircut!

Sabang Dive Shops
Sabang grew from a small fishing village to a thriving town on the back
of scuba diving. There are more scuba diving shops in Sabang Philippines
than any other shop, in fact there are more dive shops than restaurants!
No
matter what level scuba diver you are, beginner or experienced, there
is a dive site and dive shop prepared to help you blow bubbles. Puerto
Galera has some of the best diving in the Philippines, have a look here
for a look at the dive sites and type of diving you will expect to see
in Puerto Galera. One of the more popular dives are the Sabang wrecks,
which lie just off the furthest mooring. There are three in total and
you can dive all three on the one dive, then you can make your way over
to the floating bar. Yes that's right you can ascend the anchor on the
floating bar, climb up the ladder and order a drink, or two. Not a bad
way to finish a dive.
If
you have never dived before and would like to try it then just pop in
to one of the many dive shops and ask, you will not be disappointed,
Sabang Puerto Galera is a great place to learn to dive.
Sabang Nightlife
Entertaining the tourist is what Sabang Puerto Galera can do. When the
lights go down the town comes to life.
One
of the best places to start your night off is the "Pub" it
is quite small with access on two sides, on the main alleyway, you cannot
miss it. It is a good place to watch the passing traffic of humanity
rushing by whilst sipping on a cold san mig.
From
here you can decide on any number of restaurants, there is a huge choice,
just about every need is catered for. My favourite restaurant is the
Tamarind Restaurant, good food, good service and right on the beach.
Sabang
beach at night is also well known for the girly bars. There are a number,
which tend to close down just as quickly as they pop up. Generally they
have a number of girls pole dancing to music.
There
are also a number of billiard rooms and discos where you can party to
the small hours of the night, the place never seems to sleep!
Sabang
Sabang Shopping
There are no mega malls or shopping centres in Sabang Puerto Galera.
The shopping is more along the lines of shorts, shirts, singlets and
other souvenir items. You can also get some black pearls either as necklaces,
anklets or bracelets they are quite beautiful. Don't forget to haggle,
then haggle some more, it is expected of you, if don't haggle you will
lose there respect and you will end up being a soft target.
If
you need to change your cash into Peso's then there are a number of
money changers in Sabang. Most of the hotels will change your money
but you will get a better exchange rate from the money changers on the
main road into Sabang, right where the jeepneys turnaround.
Running
diagonally from the main road into Sabang is a smaller road that will
take you down to the markets. Here you can purchase all sorts of fresh
produce as well as the early catch of the day. Make sure you get there
early.
Sabang
Puerto Galera also has its fair share of Internet Cafes. Keeping in
touch with your families around the world has never been so easy, gone
are the days of the postcards and letters from paradise, which you use
to beat home anyway.
For
information on where to stay and for a general overview of accommodation
in Sabang Beach have a look here. For my recommendation on where to
sleep in Sabang check out the Mermaid Resort.
If
you are having trouble getting to Sabang or just have no idea where
it is, then have a look here.
All
in all Sabang is a fun place to visit and tends to come to life after
dark. There are some great beaches around Sabang Puerto Galera so you
will not miss out.
